for everyone

Reinald Audi Doodoh (Ray for short), joined our agency in June 2002 as an Account Manager. In September of 2004, he fell ill and was soon diagnosed with leukemia. He received chemotherapy for three months and was given the all clear after that. The doctors said the disease was in the early stages and they had treated it on time. After a long period of convalescence, Ray returned to work. He remained in remission till May 2006, when the disease came back. He underwent a second period of chemotherapy.  Unfortunately, it was not successful and he had to undergo another phase of chemo treatment in August for another three months. He recovered and returned to work but this time at Rapp Collins as New Business Manager.  In October of 2007, he fell ill for the third time and this time the doctor’s prognosis was not encouraging. We at DDB and Rapp Indonesia felt that he should not accept the prognosis so easily and encouraged him to seek a second opinion abroad. He chose Singapore, being the nearest and most frequented destination for medical treatment of Indonesians. The specialist he consulted with offered him a 50:50 chance of recovery with  a bone marrow transplant. The challenge - finding the perfect match. So after  a series of tests, it was discovered that Ray’s sister is his perfect match. That was the good news, the bad news - the cost of the procedure and the after care. That’s where we come in. What is really sad is that the doctor told Ray that if he had the bone marrow transplant the first time he fell ill, he would be free of the leukemia today.

Ray has been stoic through all of this. He returned to work as much as he could, determined to live a normal life and beat the disease. He and his wife, Linda were blessed late last year with a son, Samuel, who is now 5 months old. His daughter, Davina, is already 3 years old. He is very positive and focused on getting well. He told me two days ago when we met, that even if he had only a 10% chance, he would seize it because he cannot give up for the sake of his family. We talked a lot about the power of the mind to heal and the power of positive thinking. He remains upbeat and strong in his resolve to win this battle god willing. He has already made his own effort to raise funds at his church, among his friends and relatives but we know that without a bigger effort on a larger scale, he will not be able to raise that money in time. So we decided to make a quick appeal for ideas to raise funds in a hurry.
